slr camera next?

I've been thinking a lot lately about acquiring an slr camera, or possibly a dslr, and printing my own photos. i can't wait to do some great focusing - depth of field controls that my little digital pentax doesn't privide. perhaps i should get a used one, so i dont have to spend a lot of money.

now the question is: should i take a class, such as photo 101 for a refresher course on photo developement? i love the smell of the chemicals and the entire process of developing film and printing my own photos.

perhaps another good choice would be to get a dslr, and a good photo printer.
